Choosing the best cycling route in the Philippines can be tricky with so many islands. Our 13-day adventure in the Visayas is perfect. We’ll cycle through four islands on paved roads, through jungles, highlands, and beautiful coastlines, stopping at cultural sites and natural wonders, and staying at lovely places.

We start in Cebu City and take a boat to Bohol. For the first three days, we’ll explore forests to see tarsiers, visit the Chocolate Hills, and climb the Sierra Bullones highlands. After resting near Anda’s beaches, we’ll find waterfalls, ride along the coast, and visit a Spanish coral stone church. On Day 8, we ferry to Siquijor, known for its beauty and mysticism. We’ll stay three nights at a beach resort, exploring coasts, jungles, and villages. From Siquijor, we’ll ferry to Cebu, cycle to Moalboal to swim with sardines, and our final ride takes us through mountains before ending back in Cebu City.

Join us and find out why they say it’s more fun in the Philippines – especially on a bike!

Itinerary ideas

We organize adventurous cycling tours that often take you off the usual paths to explore unexpected places. Sometimes, we may need to change our plans for safety or to make the trip better. If we ever need to switch hotels, we'll always choose similar or better ones. Your safety and enjoyment are our main focus. If you have any questions about changes during the trip, feel free to ask us.

Welcome to Cebu, the “Queen City of the South”! We’ll pick you up from Mactan International Airport and take you to our hotel. In the evening, we’ll have a welcome meeting and dinner. If you arrive early, explore historic sites like churches and a fort. Cebu is known for its vibrant markets and delicious local cuisine!

  • 2

In the early morning, we head to the pier to catch a ferry to Bohol Island. Watch Cebu’s cityscape fade into the ocean. After a two-hour ride, we arrive in Tagbilaran and meet our support vehicle, a traditional Filipino ‘jeepney.’ We transfer a short distance for lunch and bike fitting.

Today’s ride is a gentle 30 km through the Visayas countryside. After 12 km, we stop at a Tarsier Sanctuary. With the help of a guide, we’ll look for these tiny creatures in the forest. Sightings are likely but not guaranteed, as they are wild animals.

We continue cycling through rural Bohol, tackling some hills before enjoying a downhill ride to the beautiful Loboc River. At our riverside resort, you can go kayaking, get a massage, or relax by the pool (additional activities are at your own expense).

  • 3

Today’s ride in Bohol’s interior involves gradual climbs, offering stunning scenery worth the effort. We stop at a gorge viewpoint, where you can try a zip line or cable car (extra cost). Cycling through the Bilar Man-Made Forest, we reach the famous Chocolate Hills, known for their unique landscape. After the ride, we drive to a hilltop for lunch and panoramic views, staying overnight at a nearby guesthouse in Carmen.

  • 4

Today, we ride from Sierra Bullones highlands to coastal Anda. Starting with a 15 km flat road through farmlands, we then tackle a 17 km uphill to reach the summit at 790 m above sea level. A thrilling 20 km descent follows, passing villages with mountain views. After lunch in Jagna, we continue 30 km to Anda, enjoying coastal scenery along the way. Our ride ends at a cozy resort with views of the Pacific Ocean.

  • 5

Today, you have the freedom to relax or discover Bohol’s coastline at your pace. Just a short distance away is the white sands of Anda beach, perfect for a day of relaxation. You can also choose to snorkel or scuba dive in the stunning coral reefs. Another option is a visit to Lamanoc Island, known for its ancient cave paintings and mangrove forests. These extra activities are at your own cost.

  • 6

Today, we’re back on our bikes to explore Bohol. We start with a short jeepney ride, then cycle through daily life scenes in Visayas. After a few climbs, we have a picnic lunch by the Malinao Reservoir. A quick jeepney ride takes us to Bilar for more cycling through the countryside. We’ll have fun downhill rides to the coast and visit a beautiful waterfall for a refreshing dip. Finally, we’ll cycle to our accommodation on the rocky shores of Dimiao.

  • 7

Get set for an exciting day of coastal cycling. Starting from Dimiao, we head west, passing charming fishing villages and coastal towns. After 30 km, we arrive at Baclayon, known for one of the oldest coral stone Catholic churches in the Philippines. The church’s aged yet well-maintained facade and interior offer a glimpse into the country’s Spanish colonial past and strong Christian heritage.

We’ll explore the church grounds before riding 5 km to a bridge linking the mainland to Panglao Island. The rest of the route takes us around Panglao, with varied terrain of rural, residential, and semi-urban areas. After 50 km, we stop for a tasty lunch overlooking the Bohol Sea. Continuing on, we reach Alona Beach, famous for its

Today, we switch islands and head to Siquijor. We take a short boat ride from the pier, enjoying the views. Once we arrive, a jeepney will take us to a hilltop restaurant for lunch with great views. Siquijor is known for its beautiful beaches, hills, and mystical culture. Despite its magical reputation, the locals are friendly. After lunch, we cycle 25 km to our beach resort where we’ll stay for three nights. Enjoy your time exploring Siquijor’s beauty and charm! Let me know if you need more assistance.

  • 9

Embark on a thrilling island adventure today in Siquijor! Cycle the 86 km coastal road filled with ups, downs, and scenic views. Visit the ancient “Enchanted Balete Tree” with a natural foot spa. Discover the historic Lazi Convent before enjoying Salagdoong Beach’s turquoise waters. Dive in or relax and admire the surroundings! Have a local lunch before heading back to the resort, passing by ocean views and fish markets. Enjoy your Siquijor exploration!

  • 10

Today, we explore Siquijor’s lush highlands by starting our journey at Mount Bandilaan National Park. A 45-minute jeepney ride takes us to the park’s peak, allowing us to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the rainforest canopy. We then embark on a thrilling 10 km downhill bike ride through the park’s southern slopes, stopping at Cambugahay Waterfalls for a potential refreshing dip. Afterward, we can have lunch at a local eatery. The afternoon offers flexibility – you can either cycle back to the resort along a 20 km route or return in the jeepney for some beach relaxation. There’s even a chance to engage in a traditional healing session, providing a glimpse into Siquijor’s mystical side, subject to the healer’s availability. Enjoy the exploration and cultural experiences Siquijor has to offer!

  • 11

Today is a day of island hopping and exploration! We begin early, catching the first ferry from Siquijor pier to Negros island. After arriving in Dumaguete, we enjoy breakfast before boarding another ferry to Cebu’s southern tip, offering picturesque sea views and a glimpse into inter-island travel in the Philippines. Arriving in southern Cebu, we start a 70 km coastal bike ride northward, experiencing the rugged headlands and picturesque scenery along the way. Cycling through fishing villages and historic towns, we witness the beauty of coastal Cebu against the backdrop of the stunning blue ocean. Enjoy the journey as we make our way to the seaside town of Moalboal!

  • 12

This morning, you can witness a stunning underwater event called the “Moalboal Sardine Run” by snorkeling near the beach. Marvel at the synchronized movement of huge schools of sardines and spot other marine life like turtles. It’s an optional but highly recommended experience before we start cycling.

Our last bike ride takes us across Cebu Island from west to east. Get ready for some challenging uphill sections as we cycle up the Cebu Central Cordillera, enjoying beautiful views of the highlands. The journey ends with an exciting downhill ride to the east coast. After loading our bikes, we’ll hop into a support van for a 2-3 hour transfer (depending on traffic) to Cebu City. We’ll stop for lunch on the way and later gather for a farewell dinner in the city to conclude our adventure.

Our recent trip to China and Mongolia was a great success. Overall we found Absolute Asia Tours services to be excellent throughout the two weeks we were in Asia. For us, Mongolia was definitely the highlight. We thoroughly enjoyed or local guides and drives and they were unfailingly knowledgeable, helpful and amusing. Their languages skills were excellent and we felt that we recieved real insight into this fascinating country. We were intinially drawn to the idea of this trip by the reports of the world class fihing and we were absolutely not disappointed. The fishing guide was first rate and we caught more fish than we could have hoped for - more than 25 each day - with the added bonus of being the only other people in sight for miles arround. AAT created a private ger camp for us on the Onon River and we enjoyed delicious food prepared by our chef in a beautiful unspoled atmosphere. They alo arranged for us to visit a nomadic family and spend time with them at home and organized a dinner with an anthropologist with expert knowledge of the region. AAT fullfilled their promise to tkae us to us to one of the world's best fishing destinations in comfort and style. We would be happy to travel with AAT again and will definitely recommend them to our friends.

Absolute Asia tours gave us a wonderful tour of Southeast Asia (working with sister-agency My Way Travel based in Vietnam). For our Siem Reap/Angkor Wat journey, our party of two had a private driver and guide named Jak, who was a cheerful and knowledgeable companion, explaining the history, culture, architecture and religious significance of the sites while keeping it always fun. We moved efficiently from site to site, and finished with a boat tour of the fishing village on stilts at Kampong Pluk on the Tonle Sap Lake. During most of our trip we stayed at top-notch locally-owned hotels, but in Siem Reap we were at the excellent local Hyatt hotel. Absolute Asia and My Way Travel our outstanding local providers, less expensive than name-brand group tours, and customized to our interests and schedule.
