Myanmar Travel Guide
A tailor-made holiday in Myanmar typically combines unique cultural wonders, trekking through rural landscapes, relaxation on tranquil beaches and time spent adrift in evocative cities, where every corner reveals yet another mesmerising highlight (or four!).
Where to travel in Myanmar
If this is your first holiday in Myanmar, you’ll probably want to visit the country’s ‘big five’. Itineraries tend to begin in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, with some time also near Inle Lake, where you can relax in lakeside resorts and spas. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site in Bagan to admire its thousands of temples, and visit Mandalay, the country’s cultural capital, before some downtime on the beaches of Ngapali in the west.
On the next trip, or if you have extra time to spare, consider trekking in Loikaw or the northern Shan State’s green mountains around Hsipaw, which are home to minority tribes, with trekking to tempt all abilities. In the far south, the islands of the Mergui (aka Myeik) Archipelago offer interesting diving and relaxing resorts. From here you can also travel by land into Thailand, and on into Laos.
