Absolute Asia/Cambodia/Rainforests & Ruins: Protecting Cambodia’s Wild
Rainforests & Ruins: Protecting Cambodia’s Wild
Begin in Phnom Penh where you’ll discover the city’s spectacular architecture from 20th century French-colonial influences to the New Khmer architecture of the 1950’s and 60’s. The best way to explore the chaotic lanes is by cyclo. As you pedal through the streets, your guide will bring the architecture to life. Then, in Siem Reap, you’ll thoroughly explore the mystical forest temples by foot or bike, from dawn till dusk. Some will be virtually empty, while others will be bustling. Follow crumbling, misty walkways as the sun rises, then view the majestic temples at sunset from a leisurely boat ride through the moat of Angkor Thom. Your journey will end with four nights with Wildlife Alliance in the Cardamom Mountains. You’ll connect with reformed poachers and illegal loggers who now dedicate their lives to patrolling the rainforest. Between ranger-led hikes-on the lookout for illegal activity-you’ll visit family farms, learn about the Cardamom Forest Protection Alliance and Community Agriculture Development Project, kayak, bike, and dine at Cambodia’s best roadside restaurants. All while staying in Cambodia’s most stunning and sustainable properties.
